Taco night is already one of the most reliable weeknight wins in the family dinner rotation — fast, flexible, and guaranteed to get everyone to the table without a single complaint. The Zorn Taco Night recipe takes that dependable format and adds a layer of flavor depth that turns a routine dinner into something the family actually talks about afterward.
Zorn Hot Sauce goes directly into the seasoned beef, folded in alongside the spices rather than left as a condiment on the side. At a mild level it's barely perceptible as heat — more a richness and complexity that makes the meat taste like it's been simmering for hours rather than fifteen minutes on a weeknight pan.
Why Zorn works in the meat, not just on top
Most taco seasoning recipes rely on a dry spice blend and a splash of water to bring the beef together. Adding Zorn Hot Sauce to that liquid component instead introduces acidity, depth, and a chili warmth that integrates fully into the meat rather than sitting on the surface as an afterthought. At the mild quantity used here, it's a flavor builder more than a heat source — the kind of ingredient that makes guests ask what you did differently without being able to put their finger on exactly what it was.
The beauty of building it into the meat also means everyone at the table gets the same base flavor regardless of how cautiously they build their taco, making it genuinely family-table friendly rather than a dish that only works for spice lovers.

How to make it
Cook the onion and garlic. Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook for 3–4 minutes until softened. Add the minced garlic and cook for a further 60 seconds until fragrant.
Brown the beef. Add the ground beef, breaking it up with a wooden spoon. Cook over medium-high heat for 6–8 minutes until fully browned. Drain off any excess fat, leaving about a tablespoon behind for flavor.
Season and add Zorn. Reduce heat to medium. Add all the dry spices — chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, salt, and pepper — and stir to coat the meat evenly. Pour in the stock and Zorn Hot Sauce and stir to combine.
Simmer until saucy. Let the meat simmer for 4–5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until most of the liquid has been absorbed and the beef is glossy and well-coated in the seasoned sauce. Taste and adjust salt if needed.
Warm the tortillas. Warm the tortillas in a dry pan over medium heat for 30 seconds per side, or wrap in a damp paper towel and microwave for 45 seconds.
Set out the toppings and serve. Arrange all toppings in bowls on the table and let the family build their own. Set out extra Zorn Hot Sauce alongside so the spice lovers can add more at the table without affecting everyone else's plate.
Family tip
Setting Zorn Hot Sauce out at the table separately — rather than increasing it in the meat — is the smartest move for a mixed-heat household. Kids and spice-averse family members get a fully flavored, mild taco. The heat lovers can drizzle on as much as they like without the whole pot being off-limits.

Make it your own
Ground turkey or chicken work beautifully in place of beef for a lighter result — reduce the cook time slightly and add a touch more oil as these leaner meats have less fat of their own. For a vegetarian version, black beans or lentils can replace the meat entirely, cooked in the same spice blend with the same Zorn addition. Corn tortillas keep the dish gluten-free for families with dietary needs. Leftovers of the seasoned beef keep well in the refrigerator for up to four days and make excellent next-day nachos or burrito bowls.
Heat level: This recipe uses 1 tbsp of Zorn — mild and family friendly. Add up to 2 tbsp in the meat for more noticeable heat, or serve extra Zorn at the table for spice lovers to customize.
Make-ahead and storage
The Zorn taco meat can be made up to three days ahead and stored in a sealed container in the refrigerator — it actually improves in flavor as the spices continue to meld. Reheat gently in a skillet over low heat with a splash of stock to loosen it back to serving consistency. The meat also freezes well for up to three months, making it an excellent prep-ahead option for busy weeks.
