Not every great appetizer needs a stove, a timer, or a plan made three hours in advance. Sometimes the best thing you can put on the table is the one that comes together in the time it takes guests to walk through the door. The No-Cook Zorn Avocado Dip is exactly that — ripe avocado, fresh lime, a handful of pantry staples, and a generous pour of Zorn Hot Sauce, mashed together into something creamy, bright, and genuinely addictive.
This is the appetizer you make when you've got fifteen minutes before people arrive, or when the idea of turning on the oven in the middle of summer sounds like a personal attack. No cooking, no cleanup beyond a bowl and a fork, and a flavor that punches well above its short ingredient list.
Why no-cook doesn't mean no flavor
The trick to a great no-cook dip is layering acid, fat, salt, and heat so each one does real work rather than relying on quantity to compensate for technique. Ripe avocado brings the creamy fat base. Fresh lime juice adds brightness and keeps the avocado from browning. A touch of salt rounds everything out. And Zorn Hot Sauce does the heavy lifting on flavor complexity — its chili depth and built-in acidity mean you don't need a long ingredient list to get a dip that tastes layered and considered rather than thrown together.
Because nothing here is cooked, ingredient quality matters more than it would in a baked or simmered dish — there's no heat to mask an underripe avocado or a flat, one-note hot sauce. Take the extra minute to pick avocados that give slightly under gentle pressure, and the dip rewards you with a texture and flavor that a rushed version simply can't match.

FOR SERVING
How to make it
Scoop the avocado. Using a spoon, scoop the avocado flesh directly into a medium mixing bowl, discarding the skins and pits.
Mash to your preferred texture. Using a fork or potato masher, mash the avocado to your desired consistency — smooth and creamy, or left slightly chunky for more texture. Both work well here.
Add the wet ingredients. Stir in the Zorn Hot Sauce, fresh lime juice, and sour cream or Greek yogurt. Mix until fully combined and creamy.
Fold in the aromatics. Add the diced red onion, minced garlic, chopped cilantro, salt, and cumin. Fold gently until evenly distributed throughout the dip.
Taste and adjust. Taste the dip and adjust as needed — more lime for brightness, more salt to round out the flavor, more Zorn Hot Sauce if you want additional heat. This is the moment to make it exactly how you like it.
Finish and serve. Transfer the dip to a serving bowl. Drizzle with extra Zorn Hot Sauce, scatter fresh cilantro leaves and crumbled cotija or feta over the top if using, and serve immediately with lime wedges, tortilla chips, and fresh vegetable sticks alongside.
Key technique
Lime juice does double duty here — it brightens the flavor and slows oxidation, but it won't stop browning entirely if the dip sits too long. For the best color and texture, make this dip no more than an hour or two before serving, and press a piece of plastic wrap directly onto the surface if you need to hold it any longer.
Make it your own
This dip is an easy base to adjust depending on what's in your fridge or how much heat you're after. A finely diced jalapeño folded in alongside the red onion adds fresh, bright heat layered on top of the Zorn's deeper warmth. A small ripe tomato, seeded and diced, brings juiciness and color closer to a guacamole-style dip. Swap the sour cream for mashed cream cheese for a thicker, richer texture that holds up well on crackers. For a smokier profile, stir in a pinch of smoked paprika alongside the cumin.
What to serve it with
Tortilla chips
Cucumber rounds
Bell pepper strips
Jicama sticks
Toasted pita
Grilled corn tortillas
Sturdy tortilla chips are the obvious pairing and let the dip take center stage. For a lighter, lower-carb option, cucumber rounds and bell pepper strips both hold up well to scooping and add their own fresh crunch. Jicama sticks bring a slightly sweet, crisp bite that contrasts nicely with the heat of the dip. This is also an excellent topping rather than just a dip — spoon it over tacos, grilled chicken, or a simple bowl of black beans and rice for an instant flavor upgrade.
Make-ahead and storage
Because this is an avocado-based dip, it's genuinely best made close to serving time — within an hour or two for the brightest color and freshest flavor. If you need to prepare components ahead, dice the onion, mince the garlic, and chop the cilantro up to a day in advance and store separately, then mash the avocado and combine everything just before guests arrive. If you do have leftovers, press plastic wrap directly against the surface of the dip to limit air exposure and refrigerate for up to one day — the color will darken slightly, but the flavor holds up well.
